No damned sun. Again.

Victoria’s hair felt dirty. Every bone in her body ached from the cold.

Her mouth was dry and tasted...gross.

Sergei had snored and farted all night.

The rescuers are sure taking their sweet time!

Ned lifted his chin from his chest and opened his eyes. His breath smelled strange. She adjusted her ponytail and tried to smile. After all, it was entirely her fault that he was on this plane. “I think it’s morning,” she whispered. Did it even matter? Yes, it did. When the rescue teams arrived, it would surely be during the day.

“Then good morning to you.” He sat up a little, shifted his gaze to the window and sighed. “Everyone else still sleeping?”

“I think so. I should check on Sarah.”

Victoria thought about all the things she normally did when she woke—brush her teeth, exercise, shower, listen to the news, eat a healthy breakfast, take a quiet walk or run with her dogs. She missed all of it. At least her abdomen was getting better. She hadn’t ruptured an organ or anything like that or she’d be a goner by now. That was good, at least.

Meanwhile, Sarah had slept almost nonstop since they crashed.

Already kneeling by the flight attendant, Rosamond looked up at Victoria and shook her head.

Victoria’s hands flew to her mouth. “Oh, no. When?”

“No. No. I’m sorry. I just meant she isn’t doing any better. I didn’t mean—I’m sorry.”

Something touched Victoria’s shoulders. Startled, she turned to see Ned and had a strong urge to shake his hands off. It wasn’t because of him. He’d done nothing wrong. It was everything else. The crash. The deaths. The suffering. She just wanted out.

“Want to go outside for a bit?”

“Not really.” She shivered. “Let’s wait a few hours. If no one has come for us yet, we’ll go out again. I’ve got a mental list of things we need.” First and foremost—time away from everyone else.

Victoria could live alone with her dogs for months without seeing another person and be fine with that. But living in close quarters with others for so long was a challenge she wished she didn’t have to face. Granted, these weren’t ideal circumstances—they didn’t have the option of retiring to their own rooms or going out alone for a run to get a break from each other.

“Like what?” Ned now had his hands on the front of her shoulders. He massaged them with his fingers.

She tensed up, wanting him to stop. “Garbage bags. Water bottles, since Sergei used so many of ours to pee in. Food—in case we need more. Medicine. Particularly for Sarah.”

Rosamond tucked the blanket up to Sarah’s chin and stepped away from her. “While you were out yesterday, we looked for an emergency first-aid kit but didn’t find one. There should have been one on the plane. At least one. It’s not here, so it’s out there somewhere. If you can find it, it might have seizure medication. Not sure if it will help her, but it’s worth having with us, in the event that she has another.
